UK Tender Statistics: October 2026 — Autumn Surge as Tender Volumes Double

October opens with 2,107 live UK tenders carrying £56.9 billion in advertised contract value — but the real story is momentum. Weekly publication volumes have nearly doubled since the August bank-holiday lull, when just 143 notices went out in a week; by early October that figure hit 711. Autumn is when public buyers get serious, and this year is no exception. See the live numbers on our UK tender statistics hub, updated every morning.

Biggest movers

Construction is the standout: 352 notices published in the last four weeks, against 157 in late July and early August. Consultancy follows with a jump of 115, then Healthcare (+82) and Education (+74). Some of this is seasonal — August is always quiet — but the scale of the rebound points to genuine pipeline. Education’s rise looks like autumn-term commissioning; construction is riding the usual pre-winter push to get frameworks in place before the weather turns.

A note on that £56.9 billion: it is dominated by multi-year frameworks. Strip out the giants and the typical opportunity looks very different — the value-band breakdown on the statistics hub shows most live tenders sitting well under £1 million.

Notable contracts

  • Consultancy and Professional Services — Government Commercial Agency, £5B, closes 9 Nov. View notice. One of the largest frameworks we have tracked; sets the tone for central-government buying of professional services.
  • West Midlands Children’s Residential Care Framework — Coventry City Council, £4.95B, closes 23 Oct. View notice. An enormous children’s services framework — with the deadline days away, one for the diary rather than the to-do list.
  • Diagnostic and Capital Equipment — Supply Chain Coordination Ltd, £4.3B, closes 30 Nov. View notice. NHS supply chain at serious scale.
  • Falls Prevention Service — West Sussex County Council, £2M, closes 5 Nov. View notice. The kind of focused, winnable health contract smaller providers should be watching.
  • Responsive repairs and voids, Dumfries & Galloway — Home Group Scotland, £2M, closes 16 Nov. View notice. Bread-and-butter maintenance work for construction firms.

What to watch next month

October’s pipeline looks strong — 711 notices in the first full week suggests the autumn run has further to go. Watch for construction frameworks landing before winter, and social-care commissioning: the Coventry framework closing on 23 October will reshape the West Midlands children’s care market. For smaller firms, the sub-£2M health and maintenance contracts are where the realistic wins sit — and more of them are appearing every week.
